Mats and Matting Buyers Guide 

Aluminum Door Mats:
Aluminum door mats are quite beautiful, and can be personalized to boot.  They do a reasonable job of removing dirt, but they're not too good at removing water and muck. Aluminum door mats are mainly decorative and should be used where dirt-removal is not critical - like on a covered porch or under a portico. Our mats stand on rubber feet to prevent movement, and they make super gifts.  

Anti-Fatigue Mats:  There are a variety of methods used in anti-fatigue mats. Encapsulated gel is preferred for home use, while link mats, rubber mats, bubble-mats, and foam mats are used commercially. In most cases anti-fatigue mats do an excellent job of relieving foot fatigue for locations where extended standing is required.

Coir Mats:  Frequently called coco mats, coir mats are nade of natural coconut fiber.  Coir mats have been in use for umpteen years, but they still do an excellent job at what they'resupposed to do - remove dirt and water from shoes! 

We have two types of coir mats.  Our backed coir mats have a low pile but because of the reinforced backing will last and last and last.  Although excellent at removing water and dirt from shoes, these backed mats should not be used in an uncovered location except in dry climates.  The reason is that if left out in the rain, these mats will gather water on the mat because the waterproof backing keeps the rain on the surface on the mat.  In a covered area, however, or in a drier climate, any water removed from shoes simply evaporates.  Backed mats will not shift or distort out of shape, and the backing retains the fibers so they don't shed..

Our unbacked coir mats are significantly thicker and they are better suited to wet locations.  Water drains through the mat which dries quickly, even in wet climates.  Also excellent at removing dirt, grime, and water, the unbacked coir mats give a rich appearance simply by dint of their thickness and interesting woven-in designs.  

Commercial Matting:   There is a large variety of types of commercial matting, some of which may be suitable to a home environment, depending on the use.  There are anti-fatigue mats, large-area-mats, water removal mats, dirt removal mats, comfort mats, runners, entrance mats and more.  See our Commercial matting section for our full selection.  Many mats can be either cut to length or made to specific sizes.  Within the commercial group there are Logo Mats, whereon you can have your company logo imprinted on the mats.  See Logo Mats, below.

Rubber Mats:   Rubber door mats, in personalized and non-personalized versions, including half-rounds, are surprisingly durable and work quite well for dirt and water removal from footwear.  We also have rubber anti-fatigue mats using a variety of sponge rubber and rubber.  In commercial versions, rubber mats provide excellent water removal or anti-fatigue properties.
